Q1. Do you have a storefront? Can I stop by and pick up some cupcakes?
A. No, I work out of my home and I exclusively do custom orders.
Q2. Is it legal to have a home food business?
A. Yes. As of September 1, 2011, the Texas Cottage Food Law goes into effect that allows sale of home baked goods, with a few restrictions.
Q3. How long have you been doing cakes?
A. I have been baking since I was a child, but began doing custom cakes in 2005. It was then that Home Sweet Home Bakery was born. I used the kitchen of a local restaurant for a while, then moved to an hourly rental kitchen, but found both of them lacking in sanitation, not to mention expensive and inconvenient. I gave up my cake business in 2008 due to a high risk pregnancy, and then chose not to resume it due to the aforementioned expense and hassle of rental kitchens. In 2009 I funneled all my energy into passing the Texas Cottage Food Law so that I, and thousands like me, would be able to legally work from home. Q4. Do you deliver?
A. Yes, but payment must be made at my home in advance. This is one of the conditions of the new law. Delivery is free within a 5 mile radius of my home, and $1 per mile, including round trip, thereafter.
Q5. Where are you located?
A. In Cedar Park near Lakeline Mall.
Q6. How much notice do you need for an order?
A. As much as possible, please! Two weeks is the bare minimum. Weddings are typically booked 4-6 months ahead of time, and a wedding will consume my entire weekend, so please plan ahead!
Q7. Can I just order a small cake? We are only feeding a few.
A. Cakes can be ordered in any size! However, the minimum order amount for custom cakes is $50.00.
Q8. What is the minimum order amount for cookies or other baked goods?
A. $40.00
